Volleyball player Nellie Spicer (right) was voted something something something...
Here is a preview of the Idaho State game this Saturday.
Howland has decided to redshirt James Keefe.
Another coach has shown some interest in our football coaching job and Norm chow is scheduled to interview today or tomorrow.

More here on UCLA's coaching hunt.
Our defensive coordinator was officially interviewed for the position.
Some Davidson fans figured out what most of us already know:
"I think we just played the team that will win the national championship. This was the best game [Davidson] played all year."
The LA Times has a pretty funny story about a kid the reneged his commitment to UCLA for Duke. How did that turn out for you?

Sorry for the extended absence. I'm back today with more inane links:
After beating Davidson on Saturday, we dropped one spot in the AP poll to 8th. I guess the voters don't look kindly on 18 point first half deficits to crappy teams.
Bruin Basketball Report has a recruiting update.
This news is pretty hilarious. Its as if you dumped your girlfriend because she got fat, and then a friend starts dating her. In fact we should all be hoping he gets the job...as explained here.
Daily News has an update on our short list of possible coaches.

UCLA is a 6.5 point dog against BYU in the Vegas Bowl.
Dewayne Walker is interviewing for our head coaching position...
We have hired the two Bobs from Office Space to help us with the coaching search.
The Trojan's master plan to move into the Rose Bowl moved forward...now all they need is our permission. I say we give it to them in exchange for a couple of recruits.
Check out this preview of our game against Davidson this weekend.
A walk-on from our team was almost the best player on Davidson's quad.

Howland had a press conference, he is trying to keep things positive. One of the more interesting tidbits from the press conference is that Keefe has been cleared to practice. I had to reread this headline a few times before I believed it.
In football news, Dorrell will not coach our bowl game, and Dewayne Walker will be the interim coach.
The Trojans got beat in overtime by Memphis last night. Normally I would be pleased, but so far this year the Pac-10 has not represented very well and we need to get some decent wins if we want respect during the tourney selection process.

Well, it finally happened. Now we have to figure out what happens next. Our AD had a press conference and revealed a few things about the firing and the ensuing search. Check out these tidbits:
"I believe we can be a national player and you can define that however you want. I believe UCLA could be a program that is in the national rankings every year, that can knock on a BCS door, that can win the Pac-10 Conference..."
"We raised a budget from $42 million when I first came in here to $60 million and we’re still in the black. That tells you that we’ve done some things that are very positive and will allow us the opportunity to be more competitive in the marketplace as we move forward..."
So, Guerrero wants to be a national player and he is willing to pay for a good coach. At least that is what is he has said. We will see in the next few weeks if he follows through.
In basketball, we dropped down to number 8. This seems a little too low to me, but basically most of the undefeated teams jumped ahead of us.

As expected, we lost to USC on Saturday and are now headed to the Pioneer Las Vegas bowl to play BYU. The game was actually not a blow out (we beat the spread), but we really did not have a chance at winning the game. The good news? Well, now it is time to get rid of Dorrell. He gave us one last reason to hate him. And now, the search for a new coach is officially on. Here is a discussion of one thing that is very important in our quest ($$$).
In basketball, we lost last night to the Longhorns From Texas. The tale of the game was rebounding...we were out-rebounded for the first time this season. The (only) good news from the game - M'bah Moute finally showed up to play. He was by far the biggest bright spot in the game as many of our other guys failed to show up...including Kevin Love. Texas played really well, shooting the lights out most of the game, especially some dude named James. At the game, it felt like we were going to win for most of the second half and Luc had a good shot for the win. That is about all you can say about the game...I guess it is good to get this out of the way now...eff that, I wanted to go undefeated this season. Anyone want to buy some season tickets? I wonder if I should reserve www.hanghowland.net?

Cowan is going to start this weekend.
Our boys are representing in the NBA right now.
Finally, a decent article detailing the uphill battle that our football recruiters face. By the way, I don't see why we give a shit about football player's academics.
That's it for the week. A couple big games this weekend. See you all out there.

Apparently, USC is trying to sleep with our girlfriend...that just ain't right.
If you are making plans to watch the game this weekend, this might be useful.
A moment of silence please for the flaming mohawk.
Preview of the basketball game tonight can be found here- DC (and Roll) may play a little tonight!
Oh, and Dan Guerrero may have let slip that he was planning on firing Dorrell next Sunday. An LA Times reporter explains how at the end of an interview Guerrero said "See you next Sunday" - an odd thing to say since reporters never talk to Athletic Directors on Sundays...unless a special press conference is scheduled.

We have taken our rightful spot at the top of the coaches poll...I have no idea what AP is thinking.
The Klover was named Pac-10 player of the week.
This article points out how our destiny in the last game this year is much like Dorrell's entire tenure as out coach...all or nothing.
Good news...Cowan will be available for the game - Bad news...Dorrell has no idea who he is going to play.
Here is your chance to prepare for the USC game with a bunch of geeks and outcasts.

If any of you have any hope that we might play in the Rose Bowl this season, this article puts things in perspective nicely.
The UCLA coaches have been claiming that the horrible style of play that we used on Saturday was some type of genius plan. It was not.
More to come on Aboya's eye later today.
And the Bruin Basketball Report has their weekly recruiting update available.

If you somehow missed it, we won last night by coming back from 13 down to beat the 11th ranked Michigan State Spartans. It is impossible to overstate how big this win is for us. Our first major challenge against a good team, hindered by injuries to our best player and a white guy that sometimes makes threes, questionable calls by the refs, and behind almost the entire game.
Howland agreed that this was huge.
As expected, K-Love had another double-double.
And...Drum Roll...Olson is practicing again, hell yeah.

Karl wants to finish the season positive...he doesn't realize that that is not possible.
We looked sloppy at times last night and dominate at times, but the constant...K-Love. He was spectacular.
Here is a preview of tonight's game. Look for another defensive battle.
The Bruins faced some strange adversity in the trip to KC.
Also, apparently Love broke his finger in practice, but was able to play anyways.
And I don't know how I missed this, but we are now ranked number 1 in the ESPN poll.
And keep in mind, we are doing all of this without our best player.

Krazy Karl is trying to make the case that the parity in college football (especially parity due to injury) means he is not a shitty coach.
It took awhile, but the race card has finally reared its ugly head.
The Daily Bruin is precious, observe the title of this piece - "Maryland may be UCLA’s biggest challenge yet". You think? I dunno, Azusa Pacific was pretty good.
A preview of the game tonight can be found here. The game is at 4 PM PST and can be seen on ESPN 2.
And the title of these two articles may make it to the pun list if they are lucky.
Here is an update on basketball commits and prospects.
Also, the ads form the Dump Dorrell campaign are supposed to hit the Daily Bruin today.

Most of us believe it is a done deal that Dorrell will be fired after this season. I am not so sure now. Dorrell is out there planting the seed of excuses.
Dorrell and AD Guerrero came out and spoke on some comments Guerrero made regarding Dorrell's future.
Howland is taking his time bringing DC back. This is a good thing.
This means Westbrook will get more work in...this can only help us later in the season.
Love will be on the cover of SI in a few weeks...curse smurse.

Our recruiting class is the most dominant force in all of sports.
Check out the rankings on all of our recruits.
Read more here on the recruits.
Did I mention the recruits just signed letters of intent.
Pauley is getting a little face lift in December.
Basketball is not the only sport with signings on Wednesday.
Who cares about football anymore...unless...I've got it, we should start K-Love at Quarterback in the Oregon game.

I was at the game last night, and the scary thing is, we did not play great. We really didn't. A bad game without our best player and... win by 30.
Mata was legit in the game, nearly netting a double double in the first half.
Go here to see UCLA's ESPN hummer press pass segment. A pretty legit inside look at Howland and our boys.
Our toughest challenge of the year steps up tonight.
The Daily Bruin is ever optimistic in its view of our football squad.

First, the bad news(football news):
We lost...again.
This does however, get the new coach talk going pretty much everywhere you look.
We dropped to number three in the coaches hot seat ranking - apparently our loss was not bad enough.
One play, on Saturday, summed up our entire season. In the stadium, it was like hearing 78,000 people getting kicked in the nuts.
Bill Plashke of the LA times weighs in on Dorrell's situation. I thought that Brandon Breazell's quote said a lot about the type of team that Dorrell runs:
"That was Meadows' play," said Breazell, blaming the kid without the scholarship. "All week he said, 'I got your back, I got your back' " . . . and then when game time comes, well . . . "
Now, the good news (basketball news):
I enjoy a good pun as much as the next guy, but this is going to get pretty tiring this season.
Hellene Elliott (yes, a woman) proves that being aware of the pun does not excuse it.
Jill Painter of the LA daily news gets in on the action.
The only newspaper that isn't quite clever enough to join the pun party...why the Daily Bruin of course.
And Howland had a few interesting things to say in a teleconference - here is the transcript to that.

Shipp will play tonight.
I guess we are lucky the NBA changed their rules.
Brian Dohn says we are a trendy pick to win the Natty this year. I agree with him in that it is a smart pick.
Remember, you can catch the basketball game on the Internet if you can't make it to the game.
The OC register points out what most of us already know, but it is still nice to hear it again.
I like what the team had to say about the football game this weekend. Here is what UCLA cornerback Trey Brown said:
“Our mind-set this week is to get 1-0 and getting back to winning ball games.”
He really has learned a lot from Dorrell this season.

Rich Perlman has some information on our next recruiting class.
If you are planning on going to the football game this weekend, this preview might help.
Markey is still talking about a PAC-10 championship...for our team...this year. What will the refrain be after this weekend when we are mathematically eliminated?
Almost everyone now agrees, Dorrell is gone unless...unless he wins out. So, yeah, he is gone.
Did you know Ryan Hollins is in the NBA?
If you need help getting pumped for basketball, read this.
And Kentucky lost last night.
