The Pun List

While reflecting on Monday's Daily link post, I decided it would be a good idea to catalog all the puntastic goodness brought about by our freshman sensation. The Pun List will be a weekly update focusing on K-Love but occasionally including others if they are deemed pun enough (let me know if you read something list worthy). Pun points will be awarded for difficulty, execution and originality. At the end of the regular pun season we will have a pun tournament. By the way, we are currently up on Cal State San Bernardino by 43. Oh Snap.

1. Much Love (1)
Short but sweet, this gets recognition because of its urban flavor. The author has clearly done her homework as we can guess that this expression is not in her normal verbal rotation. For this I feel it deserves a spot in the tourney. It is like word play affirmative action.

2. Love Affair (1)
I like this one because it is one of those truly bad puns that is more or less a pun for the sake of punning. It has nothing to do with anything and was chosen because it sounds good. Think about the idea of a pun, not bad in concept - should be slightly amusing if clever enough. But for some reason, puns have become one of most universally hated uses of the English language. So why the hate? Well, a pun is what pea brains use when they can't think of anything clever (which it turns out is quite often). And this is why the pun has become such a staple for the sportswriter, they are not very bright.

3. Tough Love (1)

This has become an early favorite to take the pun title this season. Simple, yet sophisticated. I hate it (which means it is good).

4. Love is all around (1)
Never heard this expression. Think she may have been going for "Love is in the air", which would have sucked serious hose water (again a good thing). She also gets points deducted for being self aware.

5. All You Need is Love (1)
This little gem comes from the same article as number four above. Not a bad effort. It has two things working in its favor - if you have attended a game this year you know that our marching band has learned a geeky band rendition of the classic Beatles song of the same name, and the fact that the lady author had the balls to double pun so early in the season.

So that is your first five puns of the year, all in all a pretty promising opening to the season. Check back next week for more Love puns...
