It's Time to Rise Up

So we are finally starting to get some national notoriety. One of the more respected SI college football analysts (Stewart Mandel) has come down hard on our fearless leader. Click here and scroll down to #4. Here is an excerpt:

The reality is, the Bruins are the definition of a poorly coached team, whether they’re going into games with ill-devised game plans or repeatedly making the kind of mistakes good coaches weed out. Of all the coaches on the hot seat right now -- Bill Callahan, Dennis Franchione, Houston Nutt, et. al. -- none has consistently done less with more than Dorrell.

I talked to various friends and fans of our beloved Bruins and all had pretty much the same reaction - sheer and utter disgust. Mandel goes on to say:

Here’s guessing that notion will only be reinforced when UCLA, loser to 3-5 Washington State, turns around and beats 8-0 ASU or 7-1 Oregon in a couple of weeks, just to give its fans another temporary glimpse of what could have been en route to the Sun Bowl

This sums up what most of us have come to expect. We win games that we should lose, and lose games that we are supposed to win. Call it Lavinitis. I have scarcely seen this part of the Bruin football fan experience discussed, and it is nice to see it described so succinctly from a national source.

Here is a little bit more on the subject from the coaches hot seat blog. An excerpt:

Mr. Yo-Yo if there ever was one. Watching a tape of the UCLA/WSU game at this very moment, it is easy to see how this team lost to Notre Dame, but they beat Cal? What? If this kind of performance is acceptable to UCLA AD Dan Guerrero, then Dan Guerrero is no longer Dan Guerrero.

What makes the whole situation even more frustrating is the stark contrast between KD and the great Ben Howland.

That being said, the time to act is now - as fans, we must now put our money where our mouths are. On the left side of the page you might notice a graphic depicting a pledge drive.
